For many of us, putting our beloved smartphone on charge every night before we go to bed is part of our evening ritual. For millions of people, it comes as naturally as brushing ones teeth.
However, charging your phone overnight every day is harmful to the battery. This is according to experts from a leading wireless charging company.
Smartphones are designed to receive current quickly, so that they charge fast. So if you charge your phone in this way, it means that current is passing rapidly between each end of the battery. Doing so overnight means that this is for a prolonged period. Charging your phone fast like this all of the time will lead to the corrosion of the battery components. This ultimately means that the lifespan of your battery will be significantly reduced.
Are you one of the many people who plug your phone into the mains every night? And do you leave it on charge until the morning? if so then you may want to take another look at your night-time routine and make some necessary changes. Of course it’s absolutely fine to charge your phone via the mains. However it’s much better if you don’t leave your phone on charge for any longer than is absolutely necessary.
Bad for the Environment, and for your Wallet
Charging your phone throughout the night limits your battery life. It also uses more electricity, which is bad for the environment as well as your wallet.
If your battery doesn’t last for more than half a day, then why not consider charging your phone for an hour or so every day while you get some exercise or watch your favourite TV show? You can then switch your phone off when you go to bed and turn it back on in the morning. Not only will you increase the life of your phone’s battery, but you will also probably get a better night’s sleep.
Another alternative is to charge your phone in your car on the way to work. Not only will this save you money on your electric bill, but it will also mean that you do not overcharge your phone, as the current drawn from a car battery is considerably less than from mains power in your home.
