Everyone has surely heard of Carphone Warehouse by now - fFirst founded in 1989 by Charles Dunstone, Carphone Warehouse is now part of Dixons Carphone – the largest independent telecommunications retailer in Europe. They have over 1100 stores across the UK and Ireland, and they are also the number 1 independent mobile online retailer in the UK.
They claim to compare the widest range of handsets and network tariffs to help you find a personalised deal. They offer two tools for this - Pin Point in store, and Help me choose online. Both are specially designed to help find the best deal that's right for you. Providing unbeatable customer service is at the heart of everything they do. With them, it’s all about finding you the best deal and the right combination of phone, tablet, network and tariff. Carphone also claim to monitor TrustPilot to make sure they are constantly improving to keep you, their customers, happy. They buy all phones and tablets from all networks and whether or not they were bought from Carphone Warehouse. They can trade in a huge range of handsets, including smartphones from major brands like:Apple, Samsung, HTC, Sony, Nokia, LG and BlackBerry.
There are two easy ways you can trade in your device with Carphone Warehouse: detailed here. Online. Just enter your device’s details (brand, model or IMEI/Serial number) and they will tell you what it’s worth. They will send you a pre-paid package so you can post your handset to them. Then, as soon as they receive your item, they will directly transfer the money into your account within three working days. In store.
You can bring your phone into any Carphone Warehouse store and they will tell you how much it’s worth. They will pay you by direct bank transfer, so you can take the amount off any replacement device you buy in store.
Unlike many of the other phone recycling outfits they guarantee to pay the agreed quote (assuming the phone is in the stated condition of course!). If for any reason they believe the phone is in a different condition to specified they can return the phone to you free of charge.
They will trade in both working and faulty phones, but they must meet some simple criteria to be accepted. If you are confused then fill out our simple Quiz and we will tell you the condition of your phone.
Carphone has the following definitions and conditions for "Working" phones:
Non-working phones must:
However, CW will accept handsets that are water damaged, won't power up/work properly or have a chipped or cracked screen, case or buttons and includes battery.
The Carphone trade-in process works this way in more detail; once you have requested a phone
pre-paid mailing package they will mail it to the delivery address you
specify, and you simply put the phone into the post and once they
receive your phone and ensure it is in the stated condition they will
process payment to you on the same day. If you have chosen to be paid by
bank transfer you will receive this in 3 working days. They can pay you
via bank transfer directly into your bank or they can send you a cheque
if you prefer.
As well as working phones they also pay cash for all types of broken
phones, including phones that don’t turn on or have moderate damage such
as a broken screen or damaged casing. They can recycle for free any
phones which have been extensively damaged, such as where the casing is
smashed, or the internals are exposed.
Excellent service, listened, discussed options and supported me in getting exactly what I needed. No pressure to buy any particular brand or package etc. Very pleased
Paid over 500 and didn't received nothing
I went into PC WORLD CARPHONE Warehouse on order to buy a phone that would give me WiFi calling, a necessity to allow my parents to get hold of me easily even when the masts are in down as frequently happens. I was told to download an app called TuGo. However, due to no fault of the sales rep the TuGo app had closed down, and afte...
Excellent advice from both sales people. Helped choose the right mobile for me with the best contract.
By far the worst experience I have ever had in any company providing a service. We spent 4 hours in the store in Leamington spa with a very condescending Jay-M and Jane who were completely useless and assured me that the phone I wanted had been ordered. I go in the next day when they said it would be in store and it HADN'T EVEN BE...
